Lili Ledy INT-4: Something Odd about the Box? Empty Lili Ledy INT-4: Something Odd about the Box?

Post by Dr Dengar Sun Jan 24, 2016 6:38 pm

While checking a few different Lili Ledy INT-4 Interceptor Boxes today, it seemed something odd is going on with a description on the front flap.

Lili Ledy "El Regreso Del Jedi" INT-4
[800][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/800]

The description reads:
CONTIENE: 1 vehiculo con alas a control remoto y cañón láser móvil

Which according to Google translates into:
1 vehicle with remote wings and mobile laser cannon

Which is pretty close to the actual description on the Kenner box (see pic below):
CONTENTS: One vehicle with remote operated wings and movable laser cannon.

Kenner INT-4
[800][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/800]

Sofar everything seems OK. But when examining the descriptions of three boxes in more detail it seems like there were remnants of ink covering the “alas a control remoto” ("remote wings") part on two boxes.
One one box this part was even clearly crossed out?

Lili Ledy INT-4: Box#1

Lili Ledy INT-4: Box#2
[800][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/800]

Lili Ledy INT-4: Box#3
[800][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/800]

I can imagine that kids made ink marks on these boxes in the past, but in the examples above it does not follow a random pattern.

Maybe a spelling error was made in the Spanish description that was corrected by crossing it out?
Or - and this is probably a far stretch - might it be that the description was altered in the factory or in shops (or needed to be altered) to prevent that consumers were misled in buying a remotely controlled vehicle?

If you have a MIB Lili Ledy INT-4, can you please check whether you also see ink marks on your box on the front flap and submit pics in this thread?

Thank you!

I guess it could be possible so people don't mistake it even though the translation from English to Spanish is pretty much the same and wing is alas in Spanish it would be a tough call as to why it was crossed out considering it seems to be under the tape which would indicate to me it was done before it was sealed but that is just my opinion.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for commenting.
You have a strong point. The ink marks are partly covered by the tape suggesting these were made early on (possibly factory made?).

Hi there. I have a INT-4 box and the line "alas a control remoto" is completly under a spot of ink (I'll upload a picture later), and the spot is covered by the tape, so it was added before it was sealed.

What I believe is, that "a control remoto" phrase might confuse people by infering something related to electronic devices. Because here, in Mexico, when we talk about something with "remote control", we think of radio controlled toys, and not a simple lever like it is in this case.

I also checked the conditions of ink in the spot with a special magniffier lens for offset print, and it was added after the print. Even more, I do believe it was applied manually and that is why it looks more as a factory mistake and not as what I conssider it is: an answer to cover a phrase that might cause confusion amongst purchasers.

Welcome aboard and thanks for chiming in Suber! Very Happy

So it might be that the text on the box was partly crossed out to prevent that buyers would be confused in purchasing a remote controlled vehicle.
That makes sense.

I would love to see the pictures of your INT-4 box. cheers

I am a native Spanish speaker and I also subscribe to the idea that the legend as it was could be very misleading: every-body would think there was a remote control inside ; )

If the crossing-out was done intentionally, I would immediately think it was just the Lilí-Ledy guys trying to avoid later legal hassle.

As you can see, in this image the phrase "a control remoto" is fully cover by this handmade line of ink, leaving only the phrase "... con alas y cañón láser..." ("... with wings and laser cannon..."), wich made make more sense according to whta was inside the box. The mark erradicates false expectations.

Is curious to note that, in the other examples, only a word or a letter is covered. We can imagine the process: "Those boxes are wrong, cover that phrase". Said by a guy in charge to a group of people with a lot more work to do, or a group that didn`t like extra work at all!!! jajajajaja!!! Anyway, at the end, its pretty clear for me the reason of that mark in this particular item. Would be interestig to have examples from other lattitudes, such as Europe...

Thank you very much for sharing your pictures and thoughts, Suber. Very Happy

On your box the ink marks are very clear. Nice.

It would be great to have pictures from other collectors. As such we could maybe cover the full spectrum of ink marks from fully crossed out to totally absent.

Cheers

Hello all - my first time on TantiveXI and learnt something new! I had no idea the pen mark on my INT-4 was deliberate. Here's another pic to add to the evidence
