Your Input Please: Early PBP (Poch) Ugnaught Empty Your Input Please: Early PBP (Poch) Ugnaught

Post by Dr Dengar Sun Feb 28, 2016 5:20 pm

In order to make a library entry for the early PBP Ugnaught, we would appreciate the feedback and input from our members.
All feedback, ideas, thoughts, etc. will help to improve the first setup for a library entry posted below.
It would be greatly appreciated if you would contribute pictures of your loose PBP Ugnaught figures, cardbacks, and even MOCs (a far shot, we realize Very Happy).

Thanks in advance for your help

[title]Early PBP (Poch) Figure: Ugnaught[/title]
***Click on any of the photos below for a larger image***

[section_header]COO Family #1[/section_header]
The first variant of the early PBP Ugnaught came with the "4 line Made in Hong Kong" COO from Family #1. The figure can either have COO 1-A1A1 or 1-B1B1 as indicated in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. It is good to remark here that such subtle differences between COOs are representative for different cavities within the same steel and can therefore never be consistently linked to any paint differences. So in the remainder of the discussion these subtle COO differences will be ignored to make things easier.
In the picture below you see a few PBP Ugnaught figures from COO Family #1.

[subtitle]DIFFERENCES[/subtitle]
What is reassuring is that these figures - which were all obtained via Spanish sources - all look identical. The greyish white hands and lighter grey hair are very obvious here. The Kenner counterpart figure is currently lacking in my collection, but when he arrives proper “Kenner vs PBP” comparison shots will be made. Promised. Very Happy

[section_header]COO Family #2[/section_header]
The second variant of the early PBP Ugnaught came with the "3 line Made in Hong Kong " COO from Family #2. The figure can either have COO 2-A1A1 or 2-B1B1 as indicated in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
In the pictures below a PBP Ugnaught from COO Family #2 is compared to two Kenner figures having the same COO.

[subtitle]Differences[/subtitle]
Compared to his Kenner counterpart, the early PBP Ugnaught has:
- greyish white ("pale") painted hands

[subtitle]NOTES [/subtitle]
The hands of the Kenner figures with this COO are prone to discoloration, transforming the hands from pink into pale yellow. Probably the Kenner figures having this COO were produced by Kader Industries which is renown for discoloration of pigments in plastic and paint during aging (green limbs Chewbacca, green snake Yoda, yellow face rebel Soldier, etc.)
The pale discolored pale yellow hands of the Kenner figures are however distinct from the signature pale greyish white painted hands of the PBP figure. (see picture).

Close ups made from the pale hands of the figure shown in the other pictures.
Note the important difference between the discolored yellow pale hands of the Kenner figures (left and middle) and the signature greyish white PBP hands (right).

The head paint of the PBP figure does NOT differ from that of the Kenner figures. This particular Ugnaught can therefore be classified as a Class II PBP figure.
Question: Was this figure also released with a head having a typical PBP paint scheme (like is the case for the first PBP variant)

Note that there is NO difference between the Kenner figures (left and middle) and the PBP figure (right).

[section_header]ACCESSORIES[/section_header]
The tool box and aprons were 99% imported from Asian factories that also produced the Kenner line. So technically these are just Kenner accessories. BTW: This seems to be the case for most of the accessories which were packed with PBP figures, besides a few exceptions.
The aprons can have different shades of discoloration from blue till purple, which is common to Kenner aprons as well.
