C3PO Query - Oh My ! Empty C3PO Query - Oh My !

Post by Geekymonkey Fri Mar 31, 2017 8:58 pm

Hi,

New here, will introduce myself properly in a bit, but as I have been scanning the forums and I have felt the need to seek an answer from the collective knowledge that is TantiveXI....

Why are so many C3PO's especially from Spain and Mexico (although not exclusively) missing appendages / bits off their limbs ? Eg Missing a whole right hand, tips of the toes etc.

If it were a mold defect then surely the paint vac metalising would have some over spray in these areas?
OR
Was someone cutting them off (Ugnaughts perhaps) ? if so why?

Apologies if this questions has been answered elsewhere I haven't found it but then again I am not too great with technology.

(Oh and whilst I think about it - I really struggle to access this forum from IPhone and IPad - no pics and cant sign in??? Its likely me being thick)

welcome  on Board.  If you can introduce yourself, that would be great.

As for the 3PO question.  I don't think it is specific to Spanish or Mexican figures.  I have lots (like 20) Kenner C-3PO's & DSD that are missing hands & feet.  I think we where just too rough as kids.
You can see a few of them in this thread. Especially the picture at the top of the thread.

Here is an old quote on how to log in using the iPhone & iPad's.  Hope it helps.

Some of your feedback was addressing the appearance of the site when using Mobile View.
This was especially a burden as there seemed no possibility to go to the Classic Version.

So we are happy to provide you a solution to switch from Mobile to Classic version for those who prefer to do so.
This way, we hope that iPhone users get a better experience when using the Tantive forum from now on.

Clint

Thanks so much for the pointer re:- IPAD - and hello from Cambridge UK !

As for the 3PO thing, well I figured it was just breakage, so I gave two old beaters to my nephews aged 6 and 9 - and I asked them if they could snap any hands or half the feet off (toe section) - neither could, so my brother in law tried, again with the most beater or beaters and no luck.... it would take some force and although I certainly bow to your knowledge it just doesnt seem to add up in my head....

Then again I was wondering why, even if different molds were cast, the size of the cuff located within the torso is different in some figures.... I understood they were all built around a pattern to ensure consistency of scale and limb positioning... but hey ho my mind just wanders.

Oh and I will introduce myself, hopefully with Pics in the collection area ASAP, but right now I have a rare break from a 9 week old little girl - my first - so I am just about holding it all together.

Welcome to the board, and congrats on the baby!

In my experience, having handled all kinds of 3PO and DSD figures, they seem to be much more fragile than others. My childhood 3PO removable limbs had his head and right hand both break off, and it wasn't mistreated. Even holding them in hand, the plastic feels much more rigid and less pliable than say Han or Luke. I don't know if it's a slightly different plastic to allow for the vac metalizing, or the paint itself that makes them this way, but there is definitely a difference.

I find Zuckuss (grey droid, not the modern era re-named 4-LOM) tends to feel pretty rigid too, and it has a very similar sculpt.

Glad to have you aboard Mr. Monkey lol

Yeah as Clint and Ian have already noted, once you've seen enough loose figures you will just attribute that to the hard plastic requited for the vac metal process.

As I understand it, that was done because bending of the limbs would flake the finish.
