Gamorrean Axe - I'm Stumped Empty Gamorrean Axe - I'm Stumped

Post by Ian_C Wed Jul 27, 2016 3:07 am

Thought I'd ask this. I just received a vintage Gamorrean, sold as non-repro.

I have never seen an axe like this. The handle is shorter, darker, and more rigid than my other axes, while the blade is slightly smaller and more glossy. Thing is, it doesn't match any descriptions I have read for a repro, and it sinks in water, where repro axes should float.

I don't get it. scratch

Help?

Thanks guys.

Hi Ian,

Might it be the Lili Ledy axe?
That one is a bit shorter than Kenner versions.

Cheers

Yes my first thought was a Ledy axe.
Mine Ledy axe is both darker and fractionally shorter than my Kenner ones.
But the Ledy axe is more bendy than the Kenner axes.

Yeah, I thought Ledy too at first. Darker handle and less detailed, shinier blade fits the description. But that handle is hard - only the very slightest malleability, and the shade of brown doesn't match the one on TIG. Suspect

I bought this on behalf of someone else looking for a standard Gamorrean. If it's Ledy, I'm going to keep it and switch it for a Kenner. Wink If it's repro, I don't want to forward it at all. Dammit.....

It may be just a short pour? If you remind me to bring my LL along next time we meet up. Then we can compare them, including the colour.

That can't be it Clint. It wouldn't account for the different color, and the handle is detailed enough that it couldn't be a short pour.

Definitely a good idea to check it against a known Ledy in person. Plus, having a second set of eyes on it will be good too. Not ready to call it a repro yet, but this is a bitch trying to identify it too. Sad

Unfortunately, I can also confirm that it is not a Ledy axe Ian. The example on the Imperial Gunnery Weapons & Accessories Guide is mine. I also have a Kenner MIM (Ledy) moc example. If you compare mine & the Ledy example posted by Chris, they have a very distinct (unique) grain to the handle.
However, I do have a legit Kenner variant like yours. I'll dig it out and check the dimensions for you, but I'm pretty sure yours is legit.

Thanks Steve!

I didn't think it matched a Ledy axe. If yours is the same, any idea on where the variant came from?

Ian

Thanks Ian. I'm affraid I don't know which variant the axe belongs to, which is why we keep trying to encourage moc collectors to work with loose collectors in order to establish which weapon/accessory variant belongs to what figure variant. sos

Here is a stock photo of my example (I have circled some of the features that appear to match yours).

I still need to compare sizes.

Also bear in mind that a single weapon mould had more than one cavity which may account for subtle differences.

Very nice Steve. Definitely the same.

I used to work in auto manufacturing, so I relate to cavity differences. It's the color that throws me off the most. Looks like we're getting somewhere though, which makes me happy.
