I prefer forums to FB groups Empty I prefer forums to FB groups

i do like facebook its face paced and there always something too see when ever you log in.

there are of course the 'look at me' attention seekers ' whats in the box' crap, mail calls.....which annoy the crap out of me

i how ever love forums!

there so much information to see and learn from. i love tottering around different threads the limelights of fellow peers etc

i think the new breed of collector who is too engrossed with the social media platform for quick sales and just pressing 'like' and not even commenting misses out so much on these forums

long live vintage forums for there inspiration, information, and above all fun

Facebook is attractive for sure, fast paced, interactive, lot of visuals.

But Facebook has a substantial "look at me, look at my collection" show off nature, which I don't like. Rarely there is any good discussion and if there is one, it rapidly sinks to oblivion after just a few posts and it hard to retrieve ever after, as FB search function s*cks.

I was very enthusiastic about FB in the beginning but it felt empty after a while. I decided to drastically reduce the number of participating Star Wars groups from about 50 to just a few smaller niche groups (Lili Ledy, PBP, Glasslite). And that makes FB more enjoyable to me

FB is mostly superfluous, whereas Fora provide in depth discussions and a wealth of knowledge.
And the forum communities - though they are smaller nowadays - still feel like real communities.

I realize I haven’t been so active on this forum for a while. It has to do with my new job consuming a lot of time. I try to be a bit more active. Every minute spent here is a minute well spent as it contributes to our forum and community.

Cheers,
Marco

Same here. I used to have facebook for about a year, but I've closed my account more than 3 years ago now. For me it was too much of a hassle and a waste of time, most of the content there is either uninteresting or temporary. I think facebook is good if you want to use it as a daily news feed, to give short informations that only have value in a short scale of time or to have quick chat with people. But facebook's layout lacks totally the "archive" function. It's impossible to find old posts or old pictures there. Whenever something is posted it's burried under hundreds of other newest content within a few hours only. Then you spend a considerable amount of time sorting through informations and posts, only to realize that 99% of what you see is not interesting at all or is superfluous. Not to mention the stuff you reaaaaally don't need to know about the people you know or you are working with lol!

I don't mean to sound like one of these old arse who yells at young people who spend too much time online  lol!  but you can easily spend an entire evening on facebook scrolling through uninteresting things and little random details about other people's lives that you won't even remember the next morning... and these superfluous informations will still continue to show up on your screen. It's endless. I've caught myself a few times staying for a couple of hours (or more) online when finding an interesting website about one of my hobbys, watching the video of an interesting documentary, or jumping from a wikipedia page to another when starting reading about an interesting topic, but I think that's valuable time when you learn something.

Nothing beats forums when you want to catalog, access and archive informations and datas about your interests.

Forums are definitley better, at least you can search and find old posts. Facebook has it's place, but I've little interest in it, and valuable info easily gets lost amongst all of the crap posts.

Facebook is good for many purposes, for example we use it in our small wrestling association to dicuss events, things that nedd to be done etc. It's also good for group pm discussions, if a group of people are going to an event, convention etc together.

For discussion of vintage Star Wars collecting, I too prefer forums over FB, although I haven't been here for a while and haven't been on Rebel Scum for a very long time. On FB, I used to be in 40+ Star Wars groups, but I removed myself from a bunch of them, for the same reasons, as Marco described. Same with other interests, no need to be in 40+ SW groups, 15+ wrestling groups, 5+ Fighting Fantasy groups etc. Many of these groups, I never visit nor check out, so no reason to be a member of them. I have tried to start some interesting topics (both collecting and non-collecting) in the Danish Star Wars group (skywalker.dk) on FB, but they often drowns in pictures, jokes etc, so I agree, that FB is not for interesting discussions.

I have Facebook, but rarely participate in much discussion there. Too many novice collectors who think they know it all, people with no respect for anyone with collecting knowledge, COTW's, mail calls, etc. Very frustrating. I used to try and chime in with informative answers to questions, but much of the time, the answer is lost, as people just don't bother reading previous messages before replying - often with incorrect information.

There are uses for it, but I find for SW, it's mostly annoying.

I have no other social media accounts of any kind.
