Hello my fellow vintage Star Wars collectors,

As a Bespin Leia Focus collector I try to get all the loose variants and only need one, the second family Poch figure.

In this post I'll share some thoughts about the first Poch figure, family one Kader mold.

Last Saturday I bought a loose Bespin Leia at the comiccon. (See picture one.) She reminded me of my Poch figure with allmost the same face and the same coo. Most noteable difference are the hands. The figure I bought didn't have the whiter hands that are an indication that it's a Poch.
As I understand the Poch figures where made in Hong Kong at Kader for this variant. The unpainted figures where send to Spain and they did the painting them selves. So the figure I bought on Saturday was painted in Hong Kong and the figure in my display was painted in Spain. Faces are almost the same, the plastic is the same and the only real difference is the paint used for the hands and feet (See pictures of my Poch figure and reference pictures from the Poch book)

I was Lucky in buying my Poch variant but a lot of the time they go for more than 175 euros. Is that worth it? Because you pay for the white hand and feet paint. The kenner counterpart started at the same factory (Kader) so in what respect is it really a variant? There's more variation in the figures painted by Kader with all the hair colours and different face paintings within this mold. For instance the 'Blonde' which has the same mold. (Distributed by Lili Ledy and Palitoy) See picture. (My profile pic is also a Kader mold, different paint. Love her!)

For me the Kader turtle neck mold is my absolute favorite! The most beautiful figures are found in this family one coo. :-)
I tend to look more at the factory's that made the figures because that explains different coo's and molds. Who sold the figures is interesting if you buy a carded figure but a lot of the times it's the same figure on a different card. For instance with Mecanno who never made their own figures.

The only variant I don't have is the second family Poch figure. She's very rare and I could buy her one day for 750 usd. Again the same mold as the other turtleneck Unitoys figures and probably send to Poch as an unpainted figure. It was to much for me because I have the figure with different hands and feet. Hope to find her one day though for a more reasonable price. I don't know why Poch got their figures in a later stage from Unitoys instead of Kader and if that happened with the other Poch figures as well. ( Javi's Poch/ PBP book doesn't show this second Bespin Leia Poch but it will be in the updated edition)

So I'm still not clear. Are they worth it? Do you think Poch figures are true variants because of a slight differnce in paint? In a later stage PBP made their own figures so these are more clear.

One of my grail items would be a carded Poch Bespin Leia. That way it is really a different figure because of the great cards they made. Not much of them around. I know that Johnpaul Ragusa has one. He is not selling and he shouldn't. Great piece! Well there is always something to hope for. ;-) For now I'm happy with what I've got and not sure how much i'm willing to spend for that second Poch figure. ;-)

If you have any thoughts on this subject, please let me know. :-)

Happy collecting and enjoy the sun!

Anwar.

Hi Anwar,

great question , simple answer to me . Yes its worth it .

theres alot of variants that have the same mold but different paint apps . to me paint differences absolutely make a variant sometimes.

look at poch toxic green limbs bossk . a very desireable variant . only paint makes him that sought after .

how about small red eye dull dome poch r2d2? paint makes him a variant .

i love all things spanish star wars and while i dont have the knowledge of some of the heavywieghts i do learn all i can . pale hands are a thing of beauty in the early poch figures .

luke farmboy greenish pants, leia green eyebrows all paint apps and great ones at that!!!

heres some photos of my poch leia . i also love her .

variants to us variant collectors are always worth it , although 750$ us is quite steep . i dont know if id pay that for any figure actually ,

check her out................

Thanks!

Great figure Bill! I seewhat you mean. I agree. :-) My Poch has some shoulder cracks as well. This is often seen with the Bespin Leia Poch. I wonder, because they where made in Hong Kong and the other first family Kader figures have the same mold and plastic, Why it seems that more of the Poch ones have these cracks? Although I have one none Poch with cracks as well. Maybe a certain batch of unpainted figures. I wonder a lot about stuff. Why did they change their painting style at Kader? The Black eye paint and the brown eye paint etc. Haha, some of these questions will never be answered probably but love to think about them. ;-)

Cheers! :-)

yeah , I think also , but it drives me crazy sometimes lol!

the cracks I always though were do to assembly in less than optimal conditions . like luke pbp (one can dream) some are more prone to this

I know there are at least 4 poch combo's but I only have the one you see if prices are right i'll get another
