Non-Sonic Welded Figures - How common are these?

I've been looking at these lately and there is a lot of information about finds and the SWCA describes the production process of sonic welding very well. Just curious how many of you guys have these and how you got them.

Presumably they were sold on cards, I couldn't find any reference to any MOCs with a bubble of loose parts  rofl  I'm sure they exist as some bubbles are pretty spacious. Although, I'm also hearing that some of them press together pretty snugly, so maybe the flaw wasn't noticed until the figures were opened.

My main question is, have they turned up for pretty much every figure? I see a small handful for sale right now, all fairly inexpensive.

Good question dude, I've always wondered about these myself. The blokes here will definitely have some idea.

Interesting to see the internals of the figures, never really looked at these before.
Would be interesting to know a bit more about them and if any have been found in pieces in a bubble.

Very interesting Chris cheers I would imagine there must of been some figures that did not weld properly but made it onto a cardback then some of the figure came apart in the bubble scratch If any did and were to survive until now I dought there would be many legitimate examples about. I have never seen one myself popcorn
Kenner's QC was not the best so it is possible Very Happy

I recall seeing a Han Bespin moc that had completely fallen apart within the bubble some years ago, possibly on TIG. From memory I think it had also been graded like that by AFA lol!
I'll see if I can find a pic.

I found the relevant thread that had the Han Bespin mentioned above. Alex (General Kahn) posted the pic. in 2011 but unfortunately the image is no longer available. I've tried google images for the original source, but so far I've had no luck.

Unrelated Chris, some of the pictures I posted on TIG using servimg are also no longer available. I found another thread where the Han moc was discussed, but again the picture has gone. To quote Alex "The overall grade on this was AFA 20, the individual sub grades where Card 40, Bubble 75 and rather astonishingly the figure got a 10!"

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] That sounds amazing! I'm kinda surprised it was even possible for the figure to get a 10 considering there should have been a rub of some kind on the paint.

Interesting to know that such a thing has turned up atleast.

i dont own any kenner non sonic welded figures . i do own a couple of poch non sonic welds because of the sloppy process and non optimal way the figures were produced early on in spain . i think alot of the kenner ones being offered lately youve got to be careful with as i notice alot of these were forced apart . after all we live in the world of people doing anything for a quick buck . i'll get some pics of my non sonic welded poch's up asap . as far as carded goes im no help at all

I think most of the figures out there, are just poorly welded, and come apart easily.
Unless they are Lili Ledy overstock.

I was thinking something to that effect. It would be interesting to get a good look at the pieces our members have.

There doesn't seem to be much interest and I'm glad that they aren't sold for outrageous premiums lol shocking really as that tends to happen for no good reason.

I recently acquired a Vader figure that we have discussed in the mod section . It seems to fall in to the category of "poorly welded" figures . I will clean him up and try to get better pics to post here as I wasn't super happy with the ones I had already taken .

I'll get them posted soon Very Happy

That is awesome! Great example of why I like these. If you didn't have them, the only other way you'd know that much about the mold would be to have pre-production parts. That FX-7 looks particularly interesting.

Great thread folks. Theses literally little bad boys have always interested me.
The following photo is of a graded NSW LXW that tis owned by Marc Carraway (probably the best LXW collection in existence).

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ever since i saw it I have always bugged Marc to sell it to me when the time comes for him to move it on. I think it's brilliant.

Jez, that's a fantastic example. The QC must have been getting lax, by the end.

Would most of the poorly welded examples, be from the end of the toy run??
