okay , maybe I'm the only bird lover here cheeky

You guys know my darker side pretty well by now but , believe it or not , I like "Purdy things" too  What a Face

My wife and I have lots of bird feeders and I plant as many plants / flowers I can to attract birds , butterflies and other insects or wildlife to our backyard . We bought a bird book a few years back so that we could identify and keep track of the different species we see in our back yard - so far we're up to about 30 different kinds of birds cheers

After we purchased our new camera last year and I realized how good of pics I could get from a distance of birds , I decided , rather then just check them off in our book , I would try to capture a photo instead Wink

I take the majority of the pics through our large picture window that looks out into our backyard . Most of the pics are taken by our peach tree that is about 10 feet away from the window (where I have hung our bird feeders) .

Here's just a few of the birds that visit our house to start with ...

(You can click on any of the bird photos in this thread for a larger image)

When I read the title, I thought SWEET! a god damn horror titty fest!!! Not quite the Tit's and Boobies I was hoping for but interesting all the same.

It's funny really because over the last few weeks at work, me and my mate have had to spend alot of time out in the countryside around Scarborough preparing for a Bike Race that was coming to town (Tour De Yorkshire)
In the ourse of our work we have basically been doing a lot of country driving (Skiving) and we have seen some amazing bird activity recently.

We spent half an hour one morning watching two Barn Owl hunting and have seen several Buzzards. But our best moments was out in a forested valley near a tiny village called Troutsdale where we saw two huge birds of prey which we beleive may have been Red Kite. We watched them for a while just soaring around against the blue sky, very beautiful Smile

Thanks Guys cheers

@ Marco - Cardinals are fairly common here but they don't come in flocks generally - we usually just see one mating pair visiting regularly until they start bringing their babies to feed/teach .

Yes- the thread was started with lots of malicious joy  Twisted Evil

Trap #1 : In the US when you say "something is for the birds" it basically means it sucks cheeky

Trap #2 : Although we don't call women birds here in the US I know it is a common European expression .

Trap #3 : You can "flip someone the bird"  fun  here in the US but I don't know if it is a expression used worldwide ?

The only thing that seems to be pretty standard worldwide is a flying feathered creature is called a bird (or whatever Bird is in your native languages Wink )

@ Jay - Feel Free to highjack the hell out of this thread - it's just for fun and birds come in all forms lol!

We have seen a few Catbirds here but they don't visit very often (still no pic Crying or Very sad )

TXI ?!? - It's for the Birds !!! Empty YELLOW ORIOLE

Post by ourchickenshack Mon Jun 22, 2015 7:49 am

I have no idea what this bird was doing in Oklahoma but it shouldn't have been here  What a Face

We have a couple species of Orioles that are fairly common to Oklahoma (Baltimore and Orchard Orioles) .

Apparently Yellow Orioles are native to South America and don't normally even leave there - my wife suggested it could be the tropical storms in that area  scratch

Regardless , we felt very lucky to see one in our birdbath yesterday - it was the 1st time I have seen a bird in our yard that was not in my "Birds Of Oklahoma Field Guide"  banana

Hey James,

Thanks for sharing, bro!
You are a lucky man that you can spot all those magnificant  birds, just back in your own garden,

The Brown Thrasher is a beautiful bird.

The South American Yellow Oriole can also be spotted in The Netherlands Antilles according to Wikipedia.
I hope the winters in Oklahoma will not be too cold for your colourful far traveller.

TXI ?!? - It's for the Birds !!! Empty Ruby Throated Hummingbird

Post by ourchickenshack Fri Aug 28, 2015 5:36 am

We have been trying our best to photograph a couple Ruby Throated Hummingbirds over the last few weeks . Unfortunately the only ones we have seen are either females or juveniles and are pretty plain but maybe we'll get lucky and a male will show up eventually What a Face

They are extremely difficult to get decent pics of but we have managed to get a few fair photos (out of well over 100 attempts) ...

James, great pictures of the elusive Opossum Bird. clapping

We had one wandering along the top of our back fence a couple years ago. It's unusual to have one in the city though. But quite often, there is one living in the barn at the family farm, for the winters. Very Happy
