COCA-COLA COBOT

Remote Controlled Mini Robot

LFL 1980 The Coca-Cola Trading Company (Made In Korea)

Click on any of the photos below for full size image :

The Cobot was released in 1980 by Coca Cola in a attempt to take advantage of the popularity of Star Wars . Despite the fact that the box has a LFL mark on it , Coca Cola never received permission from George Lucas to use the obvious R2-D2 image likeness , and were forced to end their production / promotion .

What am I missing regarding the LFL mark yet they didn't have permission to use the design?

Nice one James. yay   I see a small focus collection starting. cheeky

When I was looking for information on the SW Fan Club buttons, I noticed that the SWCA has quite a few Cobot buttons from different countries.

Coke didn't get permission to be linked with SW on this item.  Consider it a bootleg item.

I don't see any LFL on either of the Cobot Cloisonne Pin's, so it makes them unlicenced and has nothing to do with Lucas Film.  They were put out by Wilson Marketing only.  Only the Cobot toy itself has the LFL stamp. The buttons seem to be completely separate items. Hope this helps. Smile

Not positive why they would have put LFL on the robots box but if you look closely at the remote control , it isn't marked LFL .

Perhaps Coke got ahead of themselves and thought Lucas would give them permission or their balls were so big that they didn't think Lucas would care or bother to try and put a stop to their copyright infringement scratch

Regardless of their reasons for putting LFL on the package , Coke didn't have permission to use the R2 likeness and were forced to stop .

They put LFL on the instruction sheet & under the bottom of the battery door on the actual toy, as well.  I'm surprised they didn't have permission on the toy.
