Re: Happy Birthday Ian
Thank you everyone!
All the pics are nice to look at too. My 7 year old was beside me as I opened this, and he's like "Are those all fans too?"
Yes, son, they are. The are indeed. And I'm a fan of those fans.
James, is it sad that I can identify almost every character in your pic? Nice even Dead Snow is included!

Happy birthday Ian , hope its a great one for you mate
I can tell you after seeing it that many of your assumptions on it were spot on, it was fun but very rehashed, i was left feeling underwhelmed and im pretty certain youd feel exactly the same after seeing it but it was good to see the kids excited, i enjoyed it but when and if you see it im certain you will be pretty confused by the 9/10 reviews, id give it a 7/10 and say its a decent foundation to move forward for the next few.
cheers mate

Again, thanks to everyone.
Bryan, my guess is that Aussie remembers the beating I took on RS for being very negative about TFA the last couple of years. Since I refuse to post there now, he's jumping in on a thread he knows I'm reading to update me that in his opinion, I was right about most of my issues.
Aussie, it gives me no joy that I have been reading reactions on RS and SWFUK that are mixed. I feel bad for anyone let down by what they hoped would be a fresh start. Conversely, I am happy for anyone who loved it. I do still believe however, that despite the love-in right now, given enough time for the hype and excitement to dissipate, TFA will suffer the same fate for many TPM had. Initial joy, and disappointment upon further reflection.

Not at all mate, i actually deleted a bit where i said to ian, 'how ironic, the new movie released on your bday lol'' after i realised his bday was the 14th not 16th, having read a few of ians thoughts on the new movies i was just having a joke with him, after deleting it i have come back to realise it didnt make any sense,
cheers

Hi mate, yep spot on.
I wont say i was disappointed because i got plenty of the things i wanted like a movie that paid respect to the original trilogy and it was better than the prequels but to be honest it just didnt grab me.
There was a complete lack of creativity and imagination imo, i dont mind a rehashed story but JJ has come up with absolutely nothing here story wise, seriously its embarrassing for him.
The new characters had no impact or charisma, the movie lacked soul and had no message, seriously im pretty sure you would tear it to shreds if you saw it, it wasnt bad but it offered very little and certainly not a shred of anything new.
You would walk out of the cinema with the conformation you were right all along even if you were a miserable bugger about it for years lol
Dont buy into the ''its the darkest sw ever'' ''its got blood and violence'' theres none of that and i didnt find it dark at all, its fine for young kids 5+ imo
If i was a kid i think it would have been great, and dont get me wrong, it wasnt bad but its just another movie that will fade away imo, it wouldnt be in my top 100 movies of the last 2 decades put it that way.
Ive got no freaking idea how its getting rated so high, 7 out of 10 at best.
cheers

Cheers Tony,
I did find an 89 page synopsis back on late Monday/early Tuesday. Because I had no interest in seeing it, I read the spoilers with no worries. It didn't give all the dialogue, but did include some of it, and was very detailed in outlining the story. They ended up correcting a couple of things later in the week, but at this point, it's about the same as if I read a novelization. It sadly went beyond what I feared, and was more rehash than I expected. I shared these thoughts on SWFUK, and while some ended up agreeing with me, it created quite a shitstorm and had several people furious with me. It seems some believe that if I saw it I'd have a different opinion, or that without being there I had no right to criticize. I've since seen THE big spoiler scene and the ending, as well as the lightsaber fight, in leaked clips online, and none of it grabs me either. In fact, I think THE scene is very anti-climactic, and the expression portrayed by the victim was hokey and not realistic.
I'm not even sure if this is worth the bandwidth to obtain a pirated copy.
