Re: Mother Bugger !!!
great pics Jim, that Cicada looks like a giant flying cockroach!!
I was given a new macro lens for my birthday, but other than sw figure pics, I have not had much chance to get outside and use it yet.
But I did take this one of a wasp the other day, I rescued him from my beer, so while he was drying off, I quickly grabbed the camera.
Unfortunately I had it on manual settings at the time, when I should of had it on sport setting or a faster shutter speed, so it came out a bit blurred, but its still ok I think.
I should improve as i get to play around with it a bit more

They are known to have a vicious bite

Re: Mother Bugger !!!
Thanks Guys
I have never been bit by one but I found out while researching that they use their beak to catch there prey and won't hesitate to stab a person with it either ...
[300][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/300]
I am guessing that their beak is close to 1/4 " long
Here's a little info if anyone is interested :

Although they are probably fairly common here in Oklahoma I have rarely seen them

Re: Mother Bugger !!!
You certainly get some cool bugs in your garden James. As someone who is into the weird and wonderful side of nature, I'd love to find things like this in my garden, unfortunately we don't get many exciting beasties in the UK. Those we do get tend to be rare.

I don't know James, you keep getting all these beautiful butterflies & cool bugs in you garden, and the only thing I've seen recently is this rather small & unspectacular moth.

That little moth looks very cool to me Steve
He has such a unique and odd shape that I really like him
I can't say that I have seen one like it before
Here's a big ole Grasshopper ...

Certainly nothing uncommon or spectacular but I thought the pic turned out pretty decent

Re: Mother Bugger !!!
The picture looks great!
My Leopard Gecko is licking her lips as I type (I'd better give her a locust).
The moth is known as a 'plume' moth (Emmelina monodactyla) It has a wing span of about an 1" & the larvae feed on bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis).

Great try at getting the night pictures.
In the pictures without the flash, the spider glows a bit. Like it's radioactive. Maybe you should let it bite you.
