We see a lot of the green species of Cicadas here but rarely see these orangish brown varieties .

I posted these green Cicada photos about 3 years ago ...
Cicadas are quite large for insects - they average about 3 inches long and are about 1 inch wide

After close inspection I realized it was a cicada in it's nymph stage (and yes I always inspect slowly moving turds )
I picked it up and put it in a bucket of dirt with a stick for it to crawl on to . I finished my chore because I thought I would have time before it started to emerge but I was wrong .
Unfortunately when I checked on it about a 1/2 hour later it had already started coming out and I missed the initial burst .
Here is what I was able to photograph ...

Re: Mother Bugger !!!
This Dragonfly is on our front steps. My wife said it was there this morning. It must have been battered around in the thunderstorm last night and doesn't seem to be doing very well.
It's about 3" (7.6 cm) long.

Thanks James. I just check & it's still sitting on the step. It's still alive, but I don't know for how much longer.
