Re: Commander Clint's customs
Testing the head and hands from last weeks casting on some spare parts. As well as figuring out the paint apps.

Looks great Clint, those head and hand castings turned out brilliantly. And I really like the colour scheme. It could just be me, but Perhaps his neck looks slightly too long? Would it be possible to dremel out the collar, so that the Bith's neck sits inside it?
something like this?

Re: Commander Clint's customs
Thanks Ian. If you have a go at sculpting the Bith head. Keep us updated.
Thanks Chris, I totally agree. I'm looking at possibly using the Bespin Guard as the base figure. So I will take one apart and see what I have to modify or add to create the collar.
If I stick with the Luke Jedi figure as the base, I might be easier to cut the neck down and make a new mold.
I already want to cast a few sets of arms, in order to "bend" the elbows to hold the instruments properly. Then recast the arms in the new positions.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
Yeah that's a great idea, using the Bespin security guard torso. That could work really well.
Would it be possible to boil the arms until really soft and then bend them into the required position, before plunging into iced water? Or would they not bend far enough? I suppose they may also revert back to their original moulded positions over time. Just thought it would be quicker and easier to boil and bend the arms, rather than casting new ones. Or you could slice the arms off using a diagonal cut along the elbow. (A bit like on the early articulated modern figures, like the ones pictured below)
Then rotate the arm into the required position and glue into place.
You could do that once, then use the arm to make a mould to take further castings from.
Thinking about it, it's probably cheaper to create one kit bashed figure, then cast all the parts from it. In order to make multiple figures. As even beater vintage figures are pricey these days. That's probably the best way to produce multiple torsos, heads, hands and legs. But I suppose you're going to need several different arm poses, as the band play different instruments. One of them is even sitting down too, I think. Wow the more you start thinking about it, the more complicated it becomes to custom build a full cantina band

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. Making one good cast of the original arms. Then cut and bend the arms for each, before recasting.
That way I still have the originals.
I'm hoping to make a couple of sets.
Plus now, they have figured out there are 7 band members.

Those are looking really good Clint. Definitely a much better idea using Bespin Security Guard bodies instead of Luke Jedi.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
The Tarkin & Band Member molds are nearly ready to start casting.
I'm just waiting on a delivery of more silicone, in order to finish the last 2 molds.
Possibly a first test cast later this week.

I'm not sure if I'm going to go with the dark green for the uniform. Possibly a dark grey.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
The first test pours look good.
For some reason the dark grey colour that I mixed, started to separate.

Very cool indeed, just curious did you buy or make the molds? As I am thinking that may be a better way to go then trying to find beaters.

Larry, I made my own molds. That way I only have to sacrifice a couple of beaters to make many copies.

That's a shame mate, that the colours separated. But you can always just spray the parts with a dark grey primer instead.

Or use them up and make a couple of Tarkin's to give away.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
They turned out pretty well.
I still need to cast the the squeeze box thing, and order some 3D printed percussion instruments.
